irishly yours : aran jumper

red aran sweater also known as the fisherman's jumper, the aran jumper is a style of sweater that takes its name from the aran islands off the west coast of ireland. its cable patterns on the chest & original popular cream color are two major characteristics. each stitch pattern has a certain traditional interpretation, like the honeycomb is a symbol of the diligent working bee while the diamond cable stitch is a wish of success, wealth, & treasure. oh, & the basket stitch represents the fisherman's basket - a hope for a plentiful catch!
